The list has been narrowed down to just 15 films that will be in the running for nominations in the 'Achievement in Visual Effects' Oscar category. Of these, seven will be chosen in January by members of the Academy's Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee to be considered for the final step in the Oscar nomination process. The seven selected will show off 15 minutes of footage in hopes of making the cut and being one of the five finalists in the visual effects category.
